Taking It To The Streets
Art and Public Protest
November 1, 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Riverside ArtsWalk Event. Panel Discussion. Using the art of Gabriela León as a starting point, UCR Sweeney Art Gallery presents a panel discussion that will investigate the ideas of how art works in public spaces, how it has been utilized as a mode of social protest, and how vernacular forms of expression have been incorporated into public demonstrations through artistic intervention. Panelists include: Lourdes Alberto (Oaxacan indigenous, Founding Member of the Women’s Indigenous Native Caucus and Lecturer
in Chicana/Latina Studies at the University of Colorado-Boulder) and Tyler Stallings (Director of UCR Sweeney Art Gallery).
